December 2024 Update
One year later...
Hey everyone. Sorry its been so long since the last update. There has been progress happening but none of it is in a sharable state yet. These things always take longer than I imagine they will. Pretty sure that’s a universal experience in game development.
As of last month, November, I’ve been working on this project for a year. I wrote this up a few months ago so if you’re unfamiliar with how this thing got started or who I am or any other details about the beginning of the project, this should answer those questions.
For some concrete examples of what the team has been spending time on, I’ll give some details. Alex has been working on a button handler system that is the foundation of basically the entire game. Zara has been working on the lore and faction backstories. MangoMany has been working on flags and other faction imagery. This is just a small sample of the things that are being pushed forward.
We are also beginning to build out vertical slices, e.g. mining, component replacement ala Tin Can, loading ship configurations from a file, etc. We can tweak and tune on these vertical slices until they feel right and then rewrite and integrate them into the main project.
I want to say a big thank you to our supporters on Ko-fi. Jake and rifter have been donating monthly for almost the entire year. This month, we had two new monthly supporters join, Ceilingspy (who is also a team member) and Victor. We’ve also had several one-off donations from Jeff, svitozar, Freddy, Pasta21, Jenner and more I’m sure. Without your support, this would be a lot more difficult. Thank you.
That’s all I’ve got for you in this update. The holiday break should see some significant progress from Alex’s project and as I said above, that is the backbone of the rest of the game so hopefully we’ll have more to share soon.
